#5amClub: My morning routine

I am happy to let you guys know that I have been keeping up with starting my days at 5:00 am in the morning. If you follow me on social media, then you already know this, and  a bit on how its been going.

Yesterday we celebrated DAY 30!

A milestone I wasn't sure I would reach as I mentioned on my first 5am post. I didn't have enough faith in myself. There have been days that have definitely been tough. I am still not used to waking at this time and its even more difficult when I have insomnia the night before --which was the case last night, I need to repurchase zzquil! LOL.

I will be making a blog update describing my experience thus far, however, today I'd like to share the morning routine that I am trying to maintain. Here we go :)

5:00 am - 5:10 am
Get up and make bed. This usually takes only a couple of minutes, I would say maximum 4 minutes but that would be really pushing it. Also, some days it is more difficult to get up than others, so the exact times are difficult to calculate. However, these are rough estimates. Also, I am considering setting my alarm at 4:45 instead of 5:00 am, per Joe's (from Before5am.com) advice. He states that if you want to be part of the 5am Club then you should be up before 5:00 am so that you can start working on your things at 5:00 am, instead of getting ready for 15-20 minutes and starting at 5:20ish (like me lol).

5:10 am - 5:15 am
Restroom routine. I would say this takes about 10 to 15 minutes, tops.

5:15 am - 5:30 am
Turn TV on to NBC channel 4 news. After using the restroom, I go to the living room for some good old fashioned TV watching, right before I exercise. The time varies, but I would say I spend 5 to 10 minutes doing this while I get a chance to fully wake up and make myself workout a bit. I also use this time to check my social media, however, Joe (from Before 5am) suggested to check our social media after having spend time working on our art and content for our viewers.  I think its a great idea because in doing so you will have something great to share.

5:30 am - 6:00am
After this I cool down a bit by doing light chores such as washing dishes or other easy tidying. I also take time to make coffee  and prepare breakfast. I'll eat and start getting ready for my day. I go to my "office" which is a quick and short walk to a corner in the dining room table, lol.

6:00am and beyond...
After I get some basics out of the way I'll move on to taking Pippa out on a walk. Then when I get back home I work on my art. This includes, writing, making, or reading up on new topics that I am not familiar with. I do some research on art related things, i make jewelry and other blog activities. I work on the photographs for my products, add text and edit I think they need it. I also go on my social media to post pictures, which also include some addition of graphics and such, so post those across all social media platforms. I do eat and snack in-between but sometimes I am sitting on my "desk" for hours and hours just making or thinking up ideas, lol. Its a fun process.

Ideally, this is the schedule I like to follow. However, there are some days when I feel lazier than others which makes me slower or slack off on things. Specialy because I do not take brakes and because I am not very good at planning my days/weeks. This is something I am working on.

I do plan on continuing with the "5amClub" now even after these 30 days. So far, I feel proud of myself that I've stuck with it for so long. Thank you for following my journey on my social media accounts. As I mentioned on Instagram, I will not do the daily "5amClub" picture, but I will try to post something about how my 5am goal is going on a weekly basis.

If you're just starting (or thinking of starting), or are already waking up at 5am, let me know! Its fun to connect with people you have something in common with. And let me tell you, not many wake up at 5am (unless they are doing it for work lol), to work on their hobbies or other activities. But if you are one of those people, come say hi, ask me questions, I want to meet you! :D

Have a great day pals <3

[Review] BookBub: Free and affordable ebooks - Book lovers, rejoice!

Hi everyone,
Today I wanted to talk to you about a really cool website for books. The website is called BookBub (bookbub.com). What makes BookBub great is that its sole purpose is to alert you on any limited time free books as well as discounted books.

When you sign up with them, they will ask you the kind of books you most like reading. This way, they will send you emails everyday on books of those genres that are free or discounted. They also let you know if they are available to read via Amazon, Apple, B & N, Kobo, and Google.

I know that Apple has a section where you can look at the books they have available for free categorized by genre, however, it can be overwhelming to go through those giant lists. If you're anything like me, you'll keep scrolling and scrolling endlessly; until way too much time has passed and you end up not deciding on any.

Too many options are sometimes not helpful to make a decision.

Thus, what is absolutely nice about BookBub, is that in your inbox, you will receive a short list of books that may interest you that are free or are affordable to you. They include a short description of the book and buttons of where you can get it (Apple, Amazon, Google, etc.). You just click on the button and it takes you straight to the book to download. It is yours to keep forever!

You guys have to give it a try. Below are some images of examples of what you might receive on your inbox. The pictures are of my recommendations.

Thank you for reading!

Organization Ideas: a small closet and kitchen drawers

If you are having trouble with space in your small closet you might want to consider the following ideas. I organized the small closet below for a young woman who was having trouble finding space for items.

Small Closet

What I did first was take out all the hangers that were not being used and separated them by style. All the nice wood hangers would be used first.

To save hanging space, you can buy or make hooks to hang multiple hangers in one. This gives you extra hanging space because 2 or 3 hangers are only taking the space of one. An example of what I mean is shown below:

I did these by crocheting a single chain of about 5-6 chain stitches and making it into a circle by closing it off on the other end.

I hung 2-4 pieces of clothing like this depending on their length. If you have storage under the hanging items, then you don't want the clothes above to get in the way.
Using this method, we got much more space. About 2/3rds of the hanging space is taken up by the clothes which gives 1/3 of free space.

The usage frequency of the item was taken into account for the placement it had on the closet. Thus:

Clothing that is not used often was placed at the very far left of the closet. This includes heavy jackets and winter coats.

After, the coats are lighter items such as: small sweaters, blazers, and cardigans.

Lastly, work clothing. These were placed at the right end for easy access for morning routines.

If you have shelves, then you should use boxes to fold items like tank tops, t-shirts, pants, etc. This is what was done in this case, using the folding method I talked about in an earlier post.

Storing books can be a real pain. However, they can be less painful to store if you use them as shelves. In this way, it doubles as: book storage and a shelf for things like shoes. Below is an example of what I'm talking about. It worked out great in this closet because there was plenty of empty space on the shelf if you only use it as shoe placement. However, when the books were added, it created an extra "step" to the shelf.

On the bottom, we stored most of the other unused books, paper and notebooks. Placed in front of those items is the hamper and makeup storage.

Kitchen Drawers

Our kitchen drawers were not organized in any way whatsoever. Everytime I tried cooking something, for some reason I always ended up opening the wrong drawer for a spoon. So I looked up ways to organize the kitchen.

First, you should take everything out while separating and grouping all like items. Below you see how I started grouping the knives in one pile, openers in another pile, baking supplies, etc. If you have items that do not really belong to a group or there's too few of them to make a pile, then just make a pile of "random".  In the random pile place those clips and other weird items that are not used much.

Dont they look so pretty now?
The drawer at the top contains all the cooking items used for making food. It is right next to the stove as well as the cutting board area for food preparation. Now all the spatulas, spoons, and knives are all at arms reach.

Below is a picture of the rest of the items that are not too frequently used when cooking. This includes: cheese graders, baking supplies, openers, small knives and everything else in between.

These are some organization tips that I feel have helped us be just a little bit less stressed. Things are easier and faster to find. We are not perfect, so sometimes I find things out of place. To avoid making these spaces cluttered and unorganized again I occasionally look at these drawers to make sure things are where they are supposed to be. That is my last tip of this post, make sure you tidy up every once in a while to keep things nice.

Happy organizing!
